Mean Girls Jr About

 ABOUT THE CAMP …

This is going to be a one week camp that ends with three performances at the Limestone Community School. The rehearsals will take place at 7 Russ Street.

This camp is going to be taught by award winning college student with years of theatre & dance experience. She will be taking the lead in teaching the campers the blocking, dancing and singing as well as designing the show behind the scenes.

The camp will run from Sunday, August 3rd-9th.

At the end of the week, all the campers will perform three fully staged public performances:

Friday at 7pm (Red Cast)
Saturday @ 2pm (White Cast)

There will be two casts of Mean Girls Junior, which will rehearse simultaneously.

ABOUT THE AUDITIONS …

Because of the quick rehearsal process, the show will be fully cast before August 3rd.

This year we are introducing in-person auditions! Auditions will be on Saturday, May 3rd. You are required to sign up for a time slot ahead of time. You can do there here. Auditions will be from 10am-5pm, each slot is 15 minutes. If we have more kids interested in auditioning than slots, we will add more slots.

What to Prepare for the Audition:

  1. Please bring in a headshot and an acting resume of all past shows.

  2. Please prepare a song to sing - either the song that the character sings that you are auditioning for, or a song not from the show. The important thing we want to see is your child’s vocal range.

  3. Please look over the sides on the audition page. We will have them all provided at the audition. You will be asked to read from at least one side, maybe more if we see fit.

  4. Please be prepared to either learn a short dance combination or be ready to be asked to do some funky dance movements.

If you can not make it to auditions in person, we will accept video submissions until 5pm on May 3rd. We highly encourage everyone to audition in person, if you are able. But if you live too far away or have previous plans that prevent you from coming out that day, this is an option. You will be emailing the video to broadwaykidsac@gmail.com.

Please visit our audition page to read through the roles available. Each role has the breakdown, a couple of pages of the script and a song and the number of lines each role has — take this into consideration before picking the role to audition for. Please memorize the lines and a part of the song.

The cast will be announced soon after — at this point, every camper will receive an email with the script and all the songs, along with more information on how the camp will run and all the junior staff and staff. Because of the quick rehearsal process during camp week, we ask that all campers come to camp on June 22nd already OFF-BOOK (knowing all their lines and songs) to allow for a smooth rehearsal process. This will help take the pressure off the campers from having to memorize their lines and songs while also learning the dances and blocking in rehearsals.

Please note: if you send in your audition tape after May 3rd, your child will not be considered for a leading role, but we will add you to the ensemble of your age group.

BEFORE YOU AUDITION …

Because of the very quick rehearsal process, if you accept a role in Mean Girls Junior, every rehearsal is MANDATORY.

If you have ANY conflicts during the weeks of August 3-8th, we won’t be able to cast you in a lead role. If your conflict is minor, you could potentially still be considered for the ensemble. There will be no exceptions to this. Thank you for understanding.

Please understand the time commitment we are expecting of you and your child BEFORE you audition.

Also, by auditioning, you are agreeing that your child will be on their best behavior during camp week. Please understand we reserve the right to pull your child from a leading role or from the show all together if their behavior hinders the rehearsal process in any way. We appreciate your understanding in this matter.

ABOUT THE SHOW …

The Plastics have deemed Broadway Junior worthy of their presence in Mean Girls JR! This "fetch" musical from book writer Tina Fey (30 Rock), lyricist Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde) and composer Jeff Richmond (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) is packed with keen wit, an undeniably catchy score, and a sincere message for everyone.

Cady Heron may have grown up on an African savanna, but nothing prepared her for the wild and vicious ways of her strange new home: suburban Illinois. How will this naïve newbie rise to the top of the popularity pecking order? By taking on The Plastics, a trio of lionized frenemies led by the charming but ruthless Regina George. Cady and her friends devise a "Revenge Party" to end Regina’s reign with Cady going undercover as an aspiring Plastic. When the lines between the real Cady and her Plastic self get blurred, she must find her way back to herself and her true friends.

Adapted from Fey's 2004 blockbuster film and the Broadway smash hit, Mean Girls JR. will be the queen bee of your stage!
